There is excitement already about the upcoming Ottawa TELUS Ride for Dad on May 30th. The parade of motorcycles is the only one of its kind in the world and it draws attention from the community and the media on ride day each year. The event gets bigger each year as more Canadians become aware about the effects of prostate cancer.
According to Garry Janz, Co-Founder and President of Ride for Dad, much can be done to prevent deaths from prostate cancer. “A dozen men die every day in Canada from prostate cancer and most of those deaths are avoidable. If detected early, the success rate and treatment is over 90%.”
TELUS Ride for Dad started in Ottawa 15 years ago raising over $20,000 that first year in 2000 for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre. Since then, TELUS Ride for Dad has raised over $15 million for prostate cancer research for the Prostate Cancer Fight Foundation (registered charity #85133 3179 RR0001). The motorcycle event has grown to include more than 40 cities in every province in Canada and TELUS Ride for Dad has expanded to snowmobiles, ATVs and watercraft rides.
Our very own Howard Yegendorf is participating in the event this year to raise greater awareness in support of prostate cancer research. Howard Yegendorf has over 30 years of experience as a personal injury lawyer and has practiced law at Howard Yegendorf & Associates and BrazeauSeller.LLP since 1989. Howard decided to become a lawyer to make a difference in the lives of others. His firm has helped many clients with serious injuries and illnesses, including clients with prostate cancer to access eligible long-term disability benefits. Howard is a compassionate man who is committed to his clients. He also participates in charities that help his clients and support the local community.
On May 30th the event in Ottawa runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be lunch served, a poker run, prizes and more. For more information, including how to register and donate, go to TELUS Ride for Dad website. We look forward to seeing you out at the event as a rider, supporter or volunteer.
