On June 29, 2017, Najma co-hosted a webinar, “Developing the Income Loss Claim for the Self-Employed Plaintiff”, with Michael Sigsworth from ADS Forensics.
Presented on behalf of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association for its members and a wider American audience, the webinar focused on the challenges associated with quantifying income loss claims for individuals who own and operate their own business, either as sole proprietors or as incorporated entities.
The program provided an overview of such basic concepts as gross vs net profits; allowable, overstated and deductible expenses; and corporate vs personal income. The program also explored challenges in creating a past income history and developing a theory of future lost income. The webinar attracted a sizeable number of registrants and elicited positive feedback on what can be a complicated head of damages for a plaintiff’s personal injury lawyer to tackle.
